WHO WE ARE

Apapa Local Government is one of the 20 local government areas in Lagos State. It is located to the west of Lagos Island. It has administrative oversight of Apapa and its environs and is home to the largest port complex in Nigeria. 

Apapa Local Government was created in October 1996 by the Administration of Gen, Sanni Abacha bringing to fruition the yearning of the people of Apapa and its environs for more direct grassroots administration and Governance.  Before this time, it was part of the Eti-Osa Local Government. The first Executive Chairman of the Council, Alhaji Nurudeen Saka was sworn in on April 9, 1997. The current Executive Chairman of the Council, Hon. Idowu Adejumoke Senbanjo was sworn in on July 30, 2021. Between the first and current executive Chairman, the Council has had 11 Executive Chairs, Sole Administrators, or Executive Secretaries.
